he brings light-blue heart murmurs to achy sunday mornings.
six fourty-six in the morning, the sun is still cool in the sky, and you've just finished an order in drive thru. ruebecca nods to the person entering the doors before moving away to put the cookies on their tray.
and it's the way he smiles as soon as he notices that you're the one standing by the register waiting to make his large french vanilla iced coffee that makes you downcast your eyes and turn away in awkward embarrassment.
while you're making his iced coffee with extra cream and flavoring (a man after your own heart, he is.) he takes to teasing you as rebecca watches. he brings up the last time he'd come in (that day you were miserably placed up at first window and unable to see his entrance. the day your own mother sought to humiliate you by shouting that your iced coffee guy was there. the day he glanced up just in time to see you turn red and dash back into your bit of orders.) and then he surprises you, he tells you his name.
"well, next time that happens, you can just ask if they mean chris, alright? and if they ask how you know don't tell 'em." he says, shyly avoiding your eyes. then, he turns and walks away, taking his light-blue scrubs and pretty voice with him.
chris. christopher. and it's a name that makes your tongue roll as it saviors the sound. it's soft and proper and it actually suits him even if you wouldn't have guessed it. (anthony, david, daniel, thomas... and whatever else you might've been thinking.)
